Fix Your Early Extension - Stop Standing Up and Out of It

How to Fix Your Early Extension

In this free weekly swing review, Dom Caminiti of The Golf Room Everywhere breaks down what's causing early extension in Brian's golf swing — and exactly how to fix it. Brian reaches a great position at the top (lead arm on plane, hands over his heels, club face matched to Justin Rose), but in transition his hips push toward the ball, dropping the club well under the plane and forcing him to stand up and out of his posture through impact.

Dom shows the setup and alignment changes to make first — shifting to 55% of your weight on the lead side and squaring up open shoulders with two alignment sticks — then gives two feedback drills to stop early extension for good.

What This Video Covers

  • Why early extension happens — the hips moving in toward the ball in transition
  • Setup fix: getting 55% of your weight onto your lead side
  • Alignment fix: squaring open shoulders using two alignment sticks
  • Brian's move vs. Justin Rose — releasing down the plane instead of getting stuck behind it
  • Drill 1: an alignment stick set just under your plane, resting the shaft on it, then slow 7-iron chip shots so the club drops in front of you
  • Drill 2: a wedge under your trail heel to keep your trail side back so your hips can't slide toward the ball
  • The right order to work on it — setup and alignment first, then the drills
